After opening the packaging, carefully remove the instrument and place it in a stable and vibration free place. The room temperature should be maintained between 10-35 ℃. Check the leveling bubble on the main column and adjust the foot nut to level the instrument.

2. Firstly, use the quality calibration method to correct the accuracy of the instrument. The quality calibration method involves placing a weight of a certain mass on the platinum ring, rotating the pointer of the vernier, and when the pointer coincides with the red line, the reading is consistent with the calculated value.

(1) Insert the platinum ring into the lower end of the suspension arm, place a small piece of paper on the circular ring of the platinum ring, open the stoppers J and K of the arm, adjust the magnifying glass so that the pointer L on the arm coincides with the red line on the reflector. If the cursor on the dial shows exactly 0, you can proceed to the next step. If zero is not indicated, the zero adjustment worm gear handle P can be rotated for adjustment.

(2) Place a certain weight on a small piece of paper with a platinum ring. When the pointer coincides with the red line, the reading of the cursor pointer should be consistent with the calculated value.

(3) If the lengths of arms F and G are not consistent, the length of the arms can be adjusted using the two mother and child arms on both arms. During adjustment, these two mother and child arms must rotate equally to maintain the same proportion of the arms and ensure that the platinum ring moves vertically up and down during the experiment. Then, the adjustment result can be achieved by moving the code O back and forth.

(4) The specific method is to place a weight of 0.0005-0.0008kg on a small piece of paper with a platinum ring, rotate the worm gear handle until the pointer L coincides with the red line on the reflector, and record the reading on the dial (to 0.1 degrees).

(5) If the recorded reading is greater than the calculated value, the two handles on the lever arm should be adjusted to shorten the lengths of the two arms equally. If the recorded reading is smaller than the count value, the arm length should be extended and this method should be repeated several times until the reading on the dial matches the calculated value.
